Who am I?

My name is James Coulter and I have been involved in education and youth work since the age of 18.

I have taught at Universities, primary schools, colleges and independent international schools and have run a successful business working directly with disengaged school children, helping them to get back on track and take control of their own lives.

I am a strong believer that success should not be defined by academic achievement alone and that everyone has the ability to be great at what they do, they just need to be on the right path!

A Little More About Me:

Having studied Forensic Science at Degree level (RSc accredited) along with a Masters in Biology (MSc) and Masters of Philosophy in Chemical Ecology (MPhil) I am well versed in all of the sciences.

Following my University studies I started to work in the youth work sector and from this transition into completing my Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE).

From this point onwards I worked in 6th form colleges teaching A-level and BTEC Science and then an independent boarding school where I was head of the Science department and taught students from ages 5 to 18 in Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

I now teach online full time, I am the safeguarding lead for an online International School and work with students around the world to achieve the rigorous Cambridge IGCSE’s in all of the Sciences.

Alongside this teaching, I tutor students in all of the main UK GCSE exam boards as well as working with younger students to excel in Entrance exams for many prestigious grammar and independent schools.
All my certificates and qualifications are available if you wish to see them.

What I Offer:

For younger students, my 1:1 lessons are usually 45 minutes long and these start from £15 per session, depending on the time of the day. For GCSE students, lessons start from £25 per hour for 1:1 tuition, rising to £35 per hour depending on the time of day and demand for specific slots.

You may wonder why my tuition is priced so reasonably.

I am a strong believer that quality education should be accessible to everyone, as such I try to keep my prices as low as practically possible. I am also open to pro-bono work for low-income families.

My teaching approach fosters open, positive and supportive learning environments. Incorporating innovative technologies and personalised methods to cater to each student’s unique learning needs. I pride myself on being patient, friendly and inclusive to all learners.

All lessons are tailored to the specific exam board being studied based on my experience teaching Cambridge IGCSE, OCR, AQA and Edexcel.

I integrate the use of Command words in lessons which create a foundational understanding of what the exam papers are asking for with a focus on keywords which are used by exam boards in order to highlight and prove the understanding and comprehension of the subject.

Group lessons are currently £15.00 per hour and classes are kept to a maximum of 6 students and include homework and individual support.

Additional Services:

I also offer: Career advice, personal statement support, College applications and support to assess the potential next steps after school and viable progression routes. Entrance exam and SATs coaching.

Feel free to request a call back to discuss your individual needs and any questions you may have.
