“I Knew It… I Just Didn’t Write It Right”

This is a phrase I hear quite often after exams:

“I knew it… I just didn’t write it right.”

It’s usually said with a mix of frustration and quiet confusion.

Because the student did understand the topic.
They had revised.
They recognised the question.

But something didn’t quite translate onto the page.

And that’s the part many people miss…

Exams aren’t just about knowledge. They’re about communication.

Understanding how to structure an answer, how to interpret command words, how to use the right keywords… these are skills in their own right.

For many students, especially those who think a little differently, the issue isn’t ability…

…it’s that no one has shown them how the exam system actually works.

And once that clicks, something shifts.

Confidence improves.
Answers become clearer.
Results begin to reflect what’s actually there.
