The Exam Isn’t Testing What You Think It Is

Most people assume GCSE exams are testing knowledge.

They are… but only partially.

What they’re really testing is something else:

How well a student can translate knowledge into the format the exam expects.

That includes:

• recognising what the question is actually asking
• structuring an answer in a specific way
• using the right terminology at the right moment
• managing time under pressure

Two students can understand the same topic…

…and get very different marks.

Not because one is “better”.

But because one understands the rules of the exam.

Once those rules are visible, the whole process becomes less mysterious… and often less stressful.

That’s where exam coaching tends to make a difference.
